Multimedia Word Works

Launching in 2021, our Multimedia page will provide a way to share illustrated, video, or collaborative work with visual components in a way that plain old paper can’t always do. JoAnne McFarland, creator of “Tracks of My Tears,” our first feature here, will curate the collection.

McFarland, painter and author of Identifying the Body (The Word Works, 2018) and other titles, creates video poems and frequently collaborates with other artists, so this project is close to her heart. 

JoAnne submitted the multimedia erasure/visual poem “Tracks of My Tears” in 2020, little knowing that we were planning to ask her to join our board in 2021. The readers for the Tenth Gate Prize selected her creation for Honorable Mention without knowing who its author was, or that it was by one of our own authors, or that the author was about to join our board. What a strange confluence, that we were hoping she would curate this new webpage, even as her work was being chosen as its first feature!
